Coming Up: The Great Indie-cision - tonight 9pm

Hey kids, for those of you who want an healthy dose of indie-queerness, tune in tonight to The Great Indie-cision... get it? Indie?

Yah, Jade Gulliver of Diff'rent Strokes fame, and me of The Fool and the Opera fortune will be joining forces to bring you an epic serving of Tokyo Blonde, Hockey, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Neon Indian, Jezabels, Passion Pit, Dappled Cities and much, much more. We'll also bring in usurper of the of indie-electro-pop throne Bobby The First to talk about his new album too. We're jam packed full of freebies too, so its definitely worth a listen to because there's going to be a lot of win on tonight's one-off special indie-xtravganza.

Jade will be taking me through the indie ropes and letting me know how I can go from opera dude to indie wannabe - how to dress, how to talk (I got the "epic" in, didn't I?), how to think. But it's not just going to be a one way road, I'm going to take her down the operatic path too, with a review of the latest offering from The Knife Tomorrow, In a Year an indie-opera album. Who would have thought, I can be hip and a fuddy duddy at the same time!

PS. tune in and message in and it might become a more regular fixture on JOY 94.9!

Coming Up: Midsumma Carnival

It's time for Midsumma madness! I'm super excited about this year's festival - there's something in the air that makes me feel as if this will be the biggest Midsumma ever. It's also the fact that all I've had on my marketing brain at JOY 94.9 right now is completing the "weird and wonderful projects" at the station, which have involved making radio pinatas, paper cacti, pink elephants and tons and tons of glittter!

It's to make sure that we have some pretty blue and pink decorations at our stall and I'll give you a few sneak previews of what you can expect as I also tell you what's happening at JOY 94.9 at Midsumma Carnival this Sunday January 17.

Hear There Magazine - FREE!
Who doesn't like a free gift? This is the latest JOY magazine and this one will be your guide to all things queer this Summer. Also with the very attractive Eduardo the pinata on the cover... why wouldn't you want one?

Head on down to the JOY stall next to the main stage this Sunday and talk to one of the friendly JOY volunteers to get yours on the day.

Midsumma membership offer
If you struck the pinata and produced this prize you'd be over the moon I'd reckon. This one is certainly a biggy - give a new JOY 94.9 membership to someone you love, including yourself, this Midsumma and you'll go in to the draw to win not one, but two V.I.P. tickets to see George Michael live in Melbourne! These babies are worth $400 each!

That's right, buy a new 6 month JOY membership for a friend, family or even yourself and not only get the chance to enter all of the competitions you hear on JOY, get invites to exclusive events and great JOY member discounts you’ll also go in the draw. Of course, we can't thank our current members enough for their support and we thought a nice way to show it is to enter everyone into the draw as well.

If you're not a member yet, or know someone who isn’t - drop by the JOY stall next at Midsumma Carnival, call 1300 JOY 949 or online at joy.org.au to be in the running. You'll have a great chance of winning, just "gotta have faith-a-faith-a-faith!"

Pink Elephant Sale
Speaking of faith... Our new marketing lass Faith pointed out that in the country they call garage sales a "White Elephant Sale" so we should have a Pink Elephant Sale! It's your chance to pick up a great CD or DVD bargain at Midsumma Carnival this Sunday. Everything must go, so we're pushing them out the door at ridiculously cheap prices.

We've had a big clean out at JOY and have loads of great pre-loved and brand new CD’s and DVD’s for sale, starting from only $1. While, it's been sad for Conrad to let go of his much loved Cliff Richards DVD (tee hee), he's put it in with a trunk full of amazing items like Dappled Cities, Queer As Folk seasons 1 and 2 and Steven K Amos - there's something for everyone so you should walk away feeling deliriously happy. All money raised goes to Melbourne’s own gay GLBTIQ radio station, so it's a double hit on the warm and fuzzies!

JOY T-shirts for sale
Optionally, if warm is not enough and you're looking for something hot... This is it! This is the latest in superhero stylin' as you’ll be seeing them on all the JOY folks in 2010 and now you can own one for yourself. JOY will have a limited edition run of 50 t-shirts (made by design competition winner Kate Leben) for sale this Sunday at Midsumma Carnival for only $20 each. Sizes vary, so get in quick as they will sell out on the day - make sure you match the look of your favourite queer hero Steve Toms (pictured).

Ross Watson raffle
While on the topic of spandex... to celebrate Ross Watson’s latest Midsumma exhibition titled ‘Celebrate our Heroes’, JOY is giving you the chance to win a limited edition print featuring the delectable Matthew Mitcham valued at $660. Tickets are limited to 400 so support this fantastic JOY fundraiser and purchase a raffle ticket for only $10 each. Make sure you're in it to win it by visiting the JOY stall next at Midsumma Carnival or call 1300 JOY 949.

Phew! Well as you can see, we've been busy beavers here at JOY and we're still in the middle of everything, so I'm going to get back to it. Please do come along this Sunday at Alexandra Gardens and visit us. Hang out and have fun - it's a good motto ain't it? Well, make sure you join us and do celebrate the beginning of what will be a brilliant festival!
