Adventures in Sydneyland: Part 5

Yes, so as you've noticed. The post about yesterday is being done today. Which can mean only one thing. We had a hell of a day yesterday.

We received all the stock on time which was lovely, but a few crises (is that the plural of crisis?) come up all at once and it left us fairly spent and exhausted. Thankfully our second team arrived just in time to help out and bring us back on track. As I set here in dawning Sydneyland, I'm very thankful for the amazing team we've got up here.

So, yesterday we got the letters and started taking them out of their shell, when we found that the most common letters in community broadcasting is in fact not A-C-E as I'd previously reported, but A-C-E-R... or if you put them back in the right order... CARE! I couldn't think of a better four letter word that summarises our community broadcasters better. After being involved in community radio for about 5 years now, trust me, if the volunteers didn't have the highest level of care for their stations, you just wouldn't have the excellent quality and output of radio that we enjoy in Australia. Considered ourselves blessed that there are hundreds of thousands of dedicated and passionate people across the country.

Bryce also found that it made the word race, which is ironic considering that all of yesterday was a wild, wild, race against time.

We started fitting lights around our radios and Australia's yesterday as well, so everything was upped in ante on brightness and beauty. Jade took charge of the light fittings as well as organising for the placards to be decorated with station call signs. Daniel gave them a quick lick of paint and they are all ready for the parade.

Jed learnt how to liquid nails our station frequency coverage circles and now we have indicators on our Australia of where the community stations marching with JOY are all situation (even if we had to compromise a little and shift them around slightly to fit. Melbourne has now moved to Mildura.)

So there you have it. 2 days out and we're almost there. The design bits and pieces are 95% complete. We just need to pick up our lights, tri-truss, generators, trailers and more liquid nails and we'll be that small step closer to the end. Wish us luck today, we may need it.

Meanwhile, given the last minute rush of jobs yesterday, sadly, we had no opportunity to go to the Sydney Opera House. Fiddlesticks.
