Alphabet Soup Radiothon Day 5

We're psyched, stoked, and ever so slightly excited. We've got our sleeves rolled up an we're ready to do-oo-oo-oo it, Lord Flashheart style. As he'd probably say, you've got to treat a man like you would a cup of soup, heat him up for 2 minutes before you dip your ladle in him and stir him til he's dizzy and he can see heaven and the stars. The other thing about Flashheart is he makes some of the most hilarious obscene phone calls, and while I'm not inviting you to call us to talk about big knobs, I do want you to call up and become a member, 9699 2949.

So, now that my cup of soup has been steamed up by dirty innuendo, I thought I would keep the Flashheart theme going and give you a sexy soup video of the day today. Be careful, it features some boy-girl nudity.

And going back to Lord Flashy for a bit, as he would say, we're always looking for talented people who can tell their arse from their elbows to join the brave 2-minuters, er 20-minuters at JOY 94.9 and to make the prospect of joining even more seductive, here's some of the prizes you have a chance of winning today if you join. Oh and just to clarify, in our case, of course 2-minutes is certainly not the life expectancy or the sexual bedtime track record of our members, it's simply the amount of time you'll need to spend in order to join up. It just takes 2 minutes, and on top of that if you make a generous donation I can offer you blessings of long life and long love time for all sexual activities in the bedroom.
  • CD Pack prize pack containing 10 CDs. Valued to $245.00
  • iPod 1GB iPod Shuffle Model A2104 and 5 CDs. Valued to $190.00
  • DVD Pack prize pack containing 4 DVDs, including Oz and James’ Big Wine Adventure Series 1 and Series 2, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Affairs of the Heart. Valued to $130.00
  • My Mac Australia Vax Barcelona Blames Laptop Bag. Valued to $120.00
  • The Pancake Parlour a gift hamper with two pancake mixes, two bottles maple flavoured syrup and a $50 voucher. Valued to $100.00
  • Dermex Cosmeceuticals Very For Men Travel Pack with a facial cleanser, anti-aging moisturiser, and night cream. Valued to $90.00
  • The Monthly a one-year subscription to The Monthly Magazine. Valued to $60.00
  • Peter Alexander voucher for a pair of Peter Alexander pajamas. Valued to $60.00
And this isn't counting the Major and Specialist prizes, so get those fingers moving, give us a ring on 9699 2949 and show us your commitment to love of a homosexual nature! Woof, woof! Who said sex doesn't sell?

Alphabet Soup Radiothon Day 1

It's the first day of radiothon, so things are exciting central at JOY 94.9!

I wanted to quickly jump online just to post a notice to let you know that I'm still around (I've been absent from Soup of the Day vids for a bit) and that I will be keeping you up to date with all the fun and hilarity as it ensues at the station over the next ten days.

Also I wanted to jump online to give you the Soup of the Day for today. This one has a bit of a homemade feel to it (god bless My Mac Australia and they're wonderful MacBook computers with amazing software like iPhoto, if only other people had the chance to experience one of these amazing machines... oh, that's right, they can by becoming a member and winning the second prize! Simply by calling 9699 2949), but it's still good. That's the thing with soup right? It always tastes better when it's made with homespun love.

Thanks to audio production from Jason Gipps for this one and for all the lovely people in the vid.

So common people, do what the video tells you to, join up, join up and make sure that we have enough soup to share around this wonderful GLBTIQmunity.

Coming Up: Radiothon June 12 to 21 part 5

Today, I thought I'd appeal to you with cutesy images and you can't get any more adorable than little baby Shirley Temple singing in the dining room. It's brought back many memories for lots of people here at the station, which I suppose shows you the broad age range of the volunteers here. In fact, I won't point fingers, but we do have a volunteer who was born around the same time the film Curly Top (where Animal Crackers In My Soup comes from) was released to the silver screen. Then on the other end of the scale we have volunteers who have managed to grow up in a generation who has never heard of Shirley Temple (how that is possible, I really don't know!).

But, the thing is, despite the significant things that have changed in the world since the mid-1930's, there are many things that still remain the same. In particular, what was happening in the global scene at the time was people were in the midst of the Great Depression. And right now, we're in the middle of the greatest financial crisis of our time. Call it the G.F.C. and blame it on the Geelong Football Club, but right now we need to spread the world of hope and joy across our community much in the same way that good 'ol Temple did. Temple brought so much optimism to the people that President Franklin D. Roosevelt is reported to have declared that "as long as our country has Shirley Temple, we will be all right."

And now for the connection. Like Temple, JOY 94.9 serves as a beacon for our GLBTIQmunity and serves as an platform to broadcast messages of promise, confidence and cheer. We receive many heartfelt messages from listeners of all ages who let us know about how we've helped them through difficult stages of their life by simply being there. Radiothon is that particular time when we will be inundated with such incredibly moving stories. Patrick Bonello from The Spin put it beautifully, "JOY is a voice in the wilderness, it is light and hope where there is darkness for countless isolated people. Radio is the most intimate of all mediums. It is with us every day of our lives, it has the unique power to touch us, it entertains and informs us. It is a constant companion and for some kid struggling to understand who he or she is, it could be an answer to a cry for help." So while Bonello is not quite Roosevelt, I think he makes a good point. As long as the GLBTIQmunity has JOY 94.9, we will all be all right. Become a member during radiothon and help keep the station handing out soupy goodness.

Coming Up: Radiothon June 12 to 21 part 4

So, I'm sitting at my desk wrapped up with a beanie, a scarf, a big wooly jacket with fuzzy linings and I'm trying desperately to stay as warm as possible. People in the office have taken to calling me the Eskimo because, well, that's what I look like.

You see, I've been sporadically coming down with something for the last week and I think it's just gone to epic fluey proportions. Not pleasant. So, my only course of action is to rug up and have as much chicken soup as possible.

If only I'd found this video, before I got sick and I could have avoided all this drama. So heed my advice, the best way to avoid getting sick this winter is to have lots of hot chicken soup, and become a JOY member during radiothon (it'll keep you warm and fuzzy from the inside out). And now, without further ado, here is the soup video of the day. Oh, how I really wish I could be like you and hear this song for the first time again. Tee hee.

Coming Up: Radiothon June 12 to 21 part 3

Caught stranded on a desert island, trapped on the arctic tundra or stuck in limbo in a boring zooniverse? Well there's only one thing that will make you feel better - soup. Take the word of two crunchy friends in a liquid broth for it. Vince Noir and Howard Moon know a thing or two about odd situations.

What else do we have to learn from this dynamic duo? Well they're like chalk and cheese in a musical minestrone. Out of this world and completely world's apart. Which brings us to the key word of today; diversity. Like the stark diversity of Howard's trance-inducing-bee-bop-jazz and Vince's lightning-inspired-electro-sailor-boy-pop, JOY's musical turntables are also delighted with a vast difference of great musical taste which matches the diversity of our community. Just a quick summary includes pop, indie pop, electro pop, DJ sets, opera, classical, country, female musicians, local musicians, explorations of sound, plus there are also the talk shows with current affairs, health, sports, news and plenty of other fun and fantastic discussion topics explored. When you think about the things that we do, you kinda realise how alluring, awesome and genius it all is, just like Vince's mirrorball suit.

So support our work and join up during radiothon and keep the station running by giving us the financial ability to pay the bills. The other option is for us to all reject reality and run off into the bushes to become hairy footed hippies with no care for family, friends or hygiene. While admittedly that would occaisionally have some appeal, we'd also end up eating a diet of mulberries and tree leaves and that's certainly not appealing when the alternative is terrific alphabet soup. So this radiothon help us keep the pot boiling with tasty and nutritious GLBTIQ soup by becoming a member. Plus there's great prizes, which I'll tell you about... next time. Tee hee.

Meanwhile, here's the final video for today. The harsh reality of what will happen to you if you don't join up... be afraid. Be very afraid.

Coming Up: Radiothon June 12 to 21 part 2

Silly Tina, Elmo doesn't want another bowl of Alphabet Soup - he want's another alphabet! But who is there to teach our children that the GLTBIQ alphabet is also an important one to learn? Seeing as so many will grow up and join it, why can't we make that transition smoother for them instead of making them learn it the hard way?

Consider, for example, the fact that all those denial statements about Bert and Ernie being gay in the mid 90s, yet in a more simpler time it was fine for the duo to share a bed.

Well, of course, there's always JOY 94.9 and as long as we're around we'll be there for families in the community. Whether it be young people people coming to terms with their sexuality or families with two mums, two dads, or one of the many, many alternative combination available today, like a good bowl of soup, we'll be right there with you through thick and thin to tell you that if you said you were thinking that you belong to to a group that starts with the letter Q we'd say... if you were gay... it'd be OK! Cue the song boys!
